From 5-7 March 2024, several SALIENT Consortium partners attended the JEC World 2024, the Leading International Composited Show at Paris-Nord Villepinte (France).

JEC World is an international networking hub that unites on an annual basis the whole value chain of composite materials, experts, professionals, academics, and researchers in Paris (France).

The show aims to showcase the potential benefits that composites can offer to various application sectors and assists participants in addressing the key challenges and trends shaping the future of the international composites industry.

SALIENT project partners actively participated in this three-day show, diving deeper into composite materials and showcasing SALIENT effective lightweight strategies and innovative technologies that deliver sustainability benefits and aim for net zero emissions.

The SALIENT project, being a member of the European Lightweight Cluster Alliance (ELCA), participated on 5 March 2024 from 15:00 to 15:55 at Agora 5 in the panel session entitled “Circularity meets Lightweight Design for the Future of Automotive”.

SALIENT Scientific Coordinator, Prof Ahmed Elmarakbi from the University of Northumbria and Thomas Hipke, Division Director of Business Unit Lightweight Construction, Textile Technologies and Circular Economy at Fraunhofer IWU, actively participated, presenting novel concepts and effective solutions for improving lightweight performance in the automotive industry. The panel was moderated by Ricardo del Valle Zermeño, Senior Consultant at Bax & Company, a SALIENT partner.

The panel focused on the intensified lightweighting strategies in the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe, and the anticipated increase of up to 75% in electric car registrations by 2030. Despite this increase, EV manufacturing currently produces 80% higher CO2e emissions than internal combustion cars.

During the panel session, the participants addressed these challenges and presented novel concepts and effective solutions for improving lightweight performance in the automotive industry.

Moreover, ThermoPre Engineering, a SALIENT partner, was present with a dedicated booth throughout the three-day event, showcasing the CP-tape produced as a result of the SALIENT project and additional developments achieved at this midway point of the project. In the booth, partners presented some of the recently produced SALIENT dissemination materials, a SALIENT roll-up and brochures, to illustrate the outcomes and milestones reached so far and increase SALIENT’s visibility.

It was a great opportunity for SALIENT partners to engage, learn more about innovative composite projects from Europe and beyond and most importantly, showcase SALIENT project's developments to a large and broad audience.

We are looking forward to next year’s edition of the event!
